PYP downtown opening day

PYP Downtown opens for classes FRIDAY DECEMBER 6!!! We are thrilled to open the doors and welcome you all into the space. You might have noticed that it’s been a bit, um, cozy in classes lately! While we love a cozy vibe, we are more than ready to expand our space by offering 29 more classes every week for a total of 84 classes between our two locations.

The new space has been buzzing with activity for months as we have built out the studio, and now it’s time for our community to enjoy the space—for students to practice and teachers to teach.

Mark your calendars for our GRAND OPENING PARTY on January 25. While the space is open and ready for classes, we still have some fun finishing touches that we’ll be doing over the next several weeks. Our grand opening party will be an evening to celebrate the studio opening and our community with food and beverages from our downtown neighbors, and a dance party with a local DJ.

In the meantime, sign up for a class and plan a few extra minutes before or after class to take a tour of the new space. Our teachers and studio assistants will be more than happy to walk you around. There are a few notable features of the space as you plan to make your way there—

>There is ample one and two hour parking in the neighborhood, but plan a few extra minutes to make your way to the studio.

>The new space has two levels. The desk and studio is upstairs and the lobby, restrooms, and showers are downstairs. There will be space for your coats and shoes when you walk in, but you’ll want to store your belongings downstairs in the lobby.

>The “late” window for class is 5 minutes. We ask that you please plan to arrive at the space no less than 5 minutes *before* class so you have time to make your way to the lobby and still be on time for class to start.

>We do not currently have mat storage downtown, but will have that ready for our grand opening for those of you who plan to practice mostly at our downtown location. As always, we have mats for you to borrow if you forget yours!

A note for all classes at both of our locations—

Our evening and weekend classes are very busy and will stay that way for the next few months. If you have pre-registered for a class that has a waitlist, you may lose your spot if you have not arrived at least 3 minutes before class, at which point we will start to allow waitlisted students into class.

We highly recommend registering for evening and weekend classes a few days in advance. Please note that you have a two hour window prior to the start of class to cancel your registration without incurring a $5 late fee (for members), or losing your class (if you have a pass or drop-in).

We do our best to accommodate as many students as possible who want to practice. This means that our evening and weekend classes are very full. If you are uncomfortable being cozy with your neighbors, please consider practicing earlier in the day if possible. Our teachers do their best to manage the room and their sequences to accommodate full classes, but sharing space comes with a need for everyone to be accommodating and welcoming to their neighbors.

At PYP we try to strike a balance between offering a serene environment for practice while also acknowledging that the privilege of being able to offer so many classes and welcome so many students into the space means that we are always aware of each other—laughter and chatter in the lobby, music from the class next door, a car alarm in the parking lot, and occasionally someone else stepping on your mat. While we do our best to minimize distractions and encourage everyone to respect each other’s space, we also welcome these features of being in community.

Thank you for all of the love and enthusiasm you've offered to us throughout this adventure. We couldn't have done it without you, and are grateful every day for your presence, practice, and support.
